Envirocon Projects Wins ENR Best of Best 2009
McGraw-Hill Construction' recently released its annual Best of the Best Awards, recognizing excellence in U.S. design and construction projects completed in 2009. Envirocon’s River Point at Sheridan project has received this distinguished designation as one of the Best Projects of 2009.
Each of the winning projects began as one of more than 1,500 entries submitted to McGraw-Hill Construction’s network of 10 regional publications for consideration for a regional Best of 2009 award. The River Point at Sheridan came from the Mountain States Construction, Gold Hard Hat Awards. In November, an independent jury of construction professionals reviewed the projects and scored them on criteria ranging from safety to innovation to how the project contributed to the community. There were 23 winners in categories such as green building, transportation, and cultural projects.
Envirocon’s successfully performed the excavation of two landfills located in the Denver suburb of Sheridan, Colorado. These landfills include portions of the former Arapahoe County (Arapco) Landfill and the Herbertson’s Pay Dump. This was a redevelopment project making way for the River Point at Sheridan, a 129-acre retail center that includes large department stores, restaurants, and a movie theatre.
Envirocon’s scope of work included the excavation, sorting, loading, transport, and disposal of over 804,500 cubic yards of municipal solid waste (trash). An additional 580,500 yards of clean soil was excavated and re-used on site to supplement over 537,800 yards of import to achieve final grades. (1,385,000 cubic yards of total excavation).
