Envirocon Employees Participate in Earth Day 2008
While everyday is Earth Day for Envirocon, project staff at the Sacramento Rail Yard site in downtown Sacramento, California went the extra mile for this year's Earth Day festivities. Envirocon Project Manager, Gene Lovett along with project staff and other local volunteers, spent the afternoon collecting and disposing of trash along a riverfront bike path west of the former rail yard site.
The Rail Yard was constructed in 1863 and has housed various railroad-related industrial activities since that time and served as the principal locomotive maintenance and rebuilding facility in California employing several thousand workers. Over the years, these operations impacted the site with solvents (Chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents), petroleum fuels and oils (gasoline, diesel, Bunker C and motor oil), various heavy metals (primarily lead, arsenic, and antimony) and asbestos.
Envirocon has been the select contractor for remediation work at the former rail yard since 2000. This project anchors the critical path of construction for one of the largest and most visible re-development projects in the state of California.
