Annual President's Award Recognizes Milltown Project Manager
Envirocon's 2009 President's Annual Project Management Recognition Award has been awarded to Kris Cook for his outstanding leadership as the Project Manager on one of Envirocon's single largest and most recognized projects, the Milltown Dam Removal Project.
The President's Award is the annual recognition of an individual who has demonstrated Envirocon's core values and capabilities through the successful management of their projects. Kris Cook embodies these principals.
The Milltown Dam project, which involved the removal of a power generating dam and over 2.2 million cubic yards of contaminated sediment that had accumulated beneath the Clark Fork River, is a highly complex Superfund site subject to significant regulatory, political, and public scrutiny. Kris has managed the field operations at the Milltown Dam site since 2006 and has successfully overcame a number of challenges associated with the design/build and multi-stakeholder aspects of the project.
Envirocon identified Kris as a stand-out Project Manager in 2009 due to his unwavering honesty, integrity, strong work ethic and leadership in professional development and mentoring of project staff. With Kris's guidance over the past year, the Milltown Dam project crew achieved zero OSHA recordables and limited incident severity, as well as produced excellent and consistent project financial results.
"Our success at Milltown is mainly due to the quality of personnel that have carried out the work. It's because of hard work from the operations crew, attention to detail from our corporate staff and positive relationships with our support organizations that we are able to provide safe, efficient service to stakeholders," said Cook.
Kris began work in the residential and commercial construction industry in 1980 and transitioned into environmental remediation in 1991 when he began working for a DOE contractor at the Colorado (UMTRA) and Utah (FUSRAP) projects. Kris was hired on with Envirocon in June 1996 as a Superintendent on the Hanford 100 B/C Remediation project in Richland, Washington. He was promoted to Project Manager at the Hanford site in 1998 and has since managed construction projects in Nevada, Idaho, and Wyoming, and Montana from Envirocon's corporate headquarters in Missoula, Montana.
Kris is highly respected by his peers for his exceptional work ethic and commitment. He embodies the best values of the company including safety, quality, and value.
There were a number of outstanding nominees for this award making final selection very difficult. The 2009 runner-up for Project Manager of the Year was Larry Johnston. Larry, a Senior Project Manager, is a long-term Envirocon employee and has also earned the utmost respect from his peers. He is currently managing a project in South Carolina where Envirocon is constructing a
12-acre sediment management unit (SMU).
