Envirocon to Construct a Soil-Bentonite Slurry Wall in Creve Coeur, Illinois
Envirocon was awarded a contract with Cargill to improve the secondary containment at a soybean oil storage facility in Creve Coeur, Illinois. Cargill recently purchased the facility in Illinois which included two large diameter steel tanks that are used to store soybean oil. The tanks are surrounded by an earthen dike which provides secondary containment; however, it was determined that the earthen dike needed a 30-foot deep cut-off wall to improve its effectiveness in containing a potential spill. Envirocon was awarded the contract to install a 67,000 square foot soil-bentonite slurry wall and 18,500 square foot jet grouted panel wall to provide the improvements. The jet grouting will be utilized along the adjacent railroad embankment which forms the eastern portion of the secondary containment where an open slurry wall excavation is not permitted. This project is expected to begin early summer and will last approximately 2 months.
