New Manager of Geotechnical Field Operations
Envirocon is pleased to announce the promotion of Mr. Michael J. Fisher from Project Director to the Manager of Geotechnical Field Operations. Mr. Fisher has worked in the geotechnical construction industry for 16 years and specializes in the installation of slurry walls including soil bentonite, cement-bentonite, slag-cement-bentonite and bio-polymer trenches as well as jet grouting, sheetpile installation, retaining walls, and both shallow and deep soil mixing techniques.

Moab - DOE Project of the Month
The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management has highlighted the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project as its "EM Project of the Month". Since June 2007, Envirocon has been performing work on the Moab Project as a subcontractor to EnergySolutions, which is the Remedial Action Contractor responsible for relocating the 16-million-ton uranium mill tailings pile from the banks of the Colorado River near Moab, Utah.

Past Mining Activities Keep Envirocon Working in Montana
Envirocon was recently awarded the RDU 7 project near Anaconda, MT which involves large scale remediation of 870 acres of property impacted by historic mining activities. Approximately 500 acres of the site requires surface removal of the top 6 – 12” of material for disposal at a nearby repository.

Last Trainload of Sediments Leaves the Milltown Project
September 24th marked another historic milestone for Envirocon’s Milltown Reservoir Sediments Superfund Site as the last trainload of contaminated sediments was transported off site. For the past 2 years, Envirocon crews have been loading the 45 railcars with approximately 100 tons of contaminated sediments each day.

Milltown Project Hits Major Milestone
A major milestone was reached at the Milltown Dam project recently. Envirocon has now excavated, loaded and shipped by rail over 1,000,000 tons of contaminated sediments to the Anaconda Smelter Superfund Site for use in site reclamation. The expected total to be removed is 2.2 million cubic yards of sediments. Removal of the spillway has also begun.

North Shore at Mandalay Bay - Oxnard, CA
The North Shore at Mandalay Bay project is located in the coastal community of Oxnard, California. It is a 91-acre site that was used as a disposal site by a private land owner. The site is mainly contaminated with sludge materials from oil drilling operations in the area. MORE >>
Sacramento Rail Yard Remediation - Sacramento, California
Envirocon recently commenced work at the former rail yard in downtown Sacramento, California. This project anchors the critical path of construction for one of the largest and most visible re-development projects in the state of California. MORE >>
Watson Children's Shelter "Bike for Shelter"
On May 12, 2007, Envirocon teamed up with Montana Rail Link and Washington Corporations for the 7th annual "Bike for Shelter" event. Thirty-two employees and their families volunteered for this event organized by Watson Children's Shelter. The event included four cycling routes from 2 miles up to 50 miles. Also included in the festivities was a small carnival with face painters, miniature horses, and jumping gyms. Montana Rail Link provided rides on a locomotive and Marty Moose handing out balloons. The goal for the "Bike for Shelter" event was to raise money to help build a second home to meet the needs of the children in the Missoula area. The Watson Children's Shelter and its volunteers raised $71,000.

Jack Gilbraith Promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
On September 25, 2006 Mr. Jack Gilbraith was promoted to President and CEO of Envirocon.
He has served for the past 10 years as Envirocon's Chief Operations Officer/Vice President of Operations where he managed all aspects of performance on remedial construction projects. Mr. Gilbraith will be responsible for all aspects of Envirocon's business.
Ken Andromalos, P.E., Envirocon’s spoke on the “Application of Soil-Mixed Methods for Excavation Support” at a Soil Mixing Specialty Seminar sponsored by the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).  The seminar was held on October 3rd in Washington, DC. MORE >>

Highway 191 - Moab, Utah
Within the next month Envirocon will complete the Highway 191 Remediation Decontamination Pad Construction project located in Moab, Utah. This is the first of two projects in Moab that Envirocon will perform this year.  MORE >>

Washington Closure Hanford awarded the contract for the 300-FF-2 Westside Remediation to Terrnanear PMC (TPMC). Envirocon is serving as a subcontractor to TPMC. The work tasks under this contract include excavation, drum handling, drum stabilization, and backfill. The project is scheduled to begin in October and finish in August of 2008.

Envirocon was awarded the Miller Reservoir Slurry Wall Project in Commerce City, Colorado. This is the second slurry wall project that Envirocon will have completed for the Denver Water Board. American Red Cross Blood Drive
Envirocon teamed with the other Washington Companies to participate in an American Red Cross Blood Drive on November 21, 2006. The goal was to produce 30 pints and the final tally was an outstanding 34 pints. Thirty-seven employees participated in this event. The Washington Companies sponsor two Blood Drives a year with the next one scheduled for April 5, 2007.

2006 Brownfields Team Award
Envirocon recently completed the Kendall Yards Brownfields Remediation Project in Spokane, Washington. The 80-acre Kendall Yards site is located in the West Central neighborhood near downtown Spokane, and was home to a steam locomotive repair and servicing complex between 1914 and 1955. The facility reportedly serviced both coal- and oil-fired steam powered equipment.

Envirocon awarded a project in Anacortes, Washington
A major oil refining company recently awarded Envirocon a project in Anacortes, Washington at a coastal refinery. Envirocon will construct a CAMU, excavate 70,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil and place the soil in the CAMU, and install a 1-foot soil cap over the CAMU. Envirocon will then excavate and place an additional 85,000 cubic yards of clean soils in order to prepare the subgrade for the a Coker facility that is to be built on site.
Clean Closure of the City of Rilato Disposal Site
Envirocon received the Notice of Award from the City of Rialto for the closure of a landfill disposal site in Rilato, CA. Envirocon provided the most competitive pricing and was selected from a group of four contractors. The project began in May and is scheduled be completed in October of this year. Envirocon is completing the work on an aggressive schedule to facilitate immediate development of the property.

Rock Island, Illinois Army Ammunition Plant
On July 7, 2006 Envirocon was awarded the Interior Remediation, Building 64 RCRA Closure (W52H09-06-R-5003) at the Rock Island Army Ammunition Plant in Rock Island, Illinois. The scope of work includes pressure washing interior walls, collecting wash water, filtering and disposing of both hazardous and non-hazardous water in Building 64 which will be used as office space.

USACE Sacramento ERS Contract: CAPE/Envirocon Team
Envirocon teamed with CAPE, Inc. for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) new Nationwide Contract. The CAPE/Envirocon team was selected as one of five awardees for the USACE Sacramento District, Environmental Remediation Services (ERS) Contract. CAPE's small business prime contract covers nationwide environmental work for various Federal agencies. Envirocon's role on this team consists of performing large-scale (civil) remediation projects and other support as requested.
2006 Special Olympic Games in Great Falls
Envirocon and other Washington Companies employees volunteered to help Special Olympics Montana put on the 2006 Special Olympic Games in Great Falls, Montana. Volunteers assisted in a variety of areas to support the setup and take down of various events. The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation donated $10,000 to this special event.
Health & Safety Technician Achievement
Andrew Simmons, Envirocon Health and Safety Technician, recently passed the exam to receive the certification for Occupational Health and Safety Technologist. This is a nationally accredited, peer-operated, certification for occupational health and safety technologists. Currently, there are only 1,215 of these certifications nationwide.
