Keep Each Other Safe – National Safety Month

Each June, the National Safety Council (NSC) promotes a month of safety focused on reducing leading causes of injury at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities. The NSC provides topics for each week, focusing on a key area. This year, those topics are:

  • Week 1: Stand Up to Falls
  • Week 2: Recharge to be in Charge (focusing on fatigue)
  • Week 3: Prepare for Active Shooters
  • Week 4: Don’t Just Sit There (focusing on ergonomics)

Envirocon is committed to safety and provides resources for each of these topics to all its employees. During our Safety Stand-Down last month, the entire company took time out of the day to focus on falls as the leading cause of injury in the construction industry. Together, we learned techniques for climbing a ladder / scaffolding safely, ensuring our teammates have proper harnesses when working from heights, and emphasized the Stop Work Authority all Envirocon personnel have in offices and on project sites.

As we head into the warmer summer months, our Health & Safety Officers monitor our workers to ensure proper hydration in the heat, and our Project Managers plan for adequate breaks to prevent overexertion. Additionally, Envirocon strongly promotes a healthy work-life balance and encourages time off to re-engage with our families.

While the topic of week three is not an easy discussion, it is important to know how best to respond during an active shooter event. Our Health & Safety staff provides presentations to our teams to discuss the signs and sounds of an active shooter and what options are available during that time. Our environments vary from offices to project sites, so knowing the proper response is important.

The NSC wraps up National Safety Month with a focus on ergonomics. Between job sites and office work, Envirocon employees are always encouraged to do the safe thing. Proper ergonomics minimize stress and strain on our bodies and promote healthy living. Envirocon provides an ergonomic assessment for our employees to help them in their daily work.

Safety is a never-ending endeavor, but focusing on key topics help remind us of proper safety techniques. Envirocon is committed to ensuring the safety of our all of employees and all those we partner with. Work Safe, Home Safe.
