A Season for Giving

Published December 13, 2023

Charitable giving throughout the year, and particularly during the holiday season, proves essential for non-profit organizations to continue their services available to those in need. Over 34 years ago, the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation (DPWF) was founded as a platform to coordinate the charitable activities of the Washington Companies, such as Envirocon, Inc. The Foundation was created to support programs and services that give people the tools to enhance the quality of their lives. Particularly, DPWF strives to invest and serve in the local communities in which Envirocon and Washington Companies live and work.

Over the past year, the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation, in conjunction with Envirocon, has provided grants across seven communities in their operating areas. They have funded various organizations ranging from domestic violence shelters, youth mentorship programs, after-school programs, and Tribal organizations focused on community services and education opportunities for Tribal youth. Most of these grants were matched by local partners, doubling the impact of the awards while also encouraging local businesses to engage with their nonprofit community organizations. With this model, DPWF and Envirocon hope to encourage continued local support for longer-term impact even after Envirocon’s projects have ended in those communities.

Most recently, Envirocon was proud to present a $10,000 grant to the Cove Chapter of the Navajo Nation in Red Valley, Arizona, on behalf of the DPWF. This grant will assist the Cove Chapter’s mission to provide direct family, housing, and financial assistance to its chapter members. Envirocon’s teaming partners on the Cove Transfer Station Project, namely Arrowhead Contracting, Inc. and Perma-Fix Environmental Services, also contributed to the Cove Chapter for a total grant award of $17,000. This donation serves as a testament to our teams’ collaborative commitment to supporting the local communities where we work.

Since its inception in 1988, the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation has provided over $507 million in grants to nonprofit organizations. DPWF embodies the importance and spirit of the holiday season by giving back to those in need. Because of its committed generosity during the holidays and throughout the year, DPWF makes a lasting, positive impact in our communities and society.
