Moab Uranium Mill project hits 4 million ton milestone ahead of schedule Approximately 25 percent of the uranium tailings from the Moab Uranium Mill have been permanently disposed of; an important milestone of the multi-year, multi-million dollar Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project in Southern Utah. The Department of Energy project began in 2009, with EnergySolutions as the primary contractor responsible for handling the disposal of the Residual Radioactive Material from the former uranium-ore processing facility.

Hanford Site Participates in Food Drive - Richland, WA
An annual fundraiser was recently held at the Hanford Site in Washington to collect food for regional food banks. Envirocon, a long with its teaming partner TPMC, participated in a food drive for the Second Harvest Organization. Our team worked together, and even during these tough economic times, were able to donate approximately 53,903 pounds of food to local families in need.
Second Harvest distributes more than 1 million pounds of donated food each month to help people in need in 26 counties in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. Partnerships with more than 300 neighborhood food banks and meal centers make it possible for them to feed 48,000 people each week.
The food drive created fun, healthy competition amongst Envirocon/TPMC employees who work at three different projects sites at Hanford. A makeover challenge, pie throwing contest, and barbecue rib feed were included in the many creative activities that took place to encourage donations for the food drive.
Milltown Update
Milltown Dam Project
The Milltown project involved the removal of the Milltown Dam and approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of copper and arsenic impacted sediment impounded behind the dam. Removal of the dam and reservoir sediments was the selected action to address a ground water contamination issue in the surrounding aquifer. Because of the impacted sediment and seasonally fluctuating water levels, the dam was removed in stages to minimize scour of reservoir sediment during periods of drawdown. In fact, Envirocon constructed numerous, complex features to minimize sediment scour, including a 4,200-foot-long lined bypass channel designed to route the Clark Fork River around the construction area during sediment removal. Sediment excavation and transport by rail to the Opportunity, Montana was completed in September 2009, marking a major milestone in the project. At Opportunity the sediment was used in the reclamation of inactive tailings impoundments. Envirocon is responsible for all portions of the selected remedy, including remediation and design. Demolition of the dam's powerhouse and subsequent reservoir drawdown was completed in March 2008. Demolition of the dam's spillway started in June 2008, and was completed March 2009. In late March 2009 Envirocon diverted the Clark Fork River to its final channel through the spillway area of the removed dam and completed the final stage of reservoir drawdown. Sediment removal and floodplain reconstruction was completed in March 2010.
Currently Envirocon is finishing up site reclamation including revegetation of the borrow areas and on-site repositories.
As the remediation portion of the project comes to an end Envirocon is looking forward to a continuing participation in the restoration portion of the project which will include construction activities throughout 2010. Envirocon completed the first Milltown restoration contract in January 2010, the scope of which included numerous diversions of the Clark Fork River upstream of the remedial site and reconstruction of approximately 6,600 linear feet of the Clark Fork River. Construction activities included realignment of the river channel and construction of numerous river bank and bed structures.
In March 2010 Envirocon was awarded the CFR 2 channel restoration contract which includes construction of river bank and bed structures and final grading of the new Clark Fork River channel through the remedial project area. Work is currently underway on that project and is expected to be complete in mid-July.
