Dunsmuir Shoreline Remedial Action

Site Overview

Envirocon responded to the active release of NAPL Bunker C fuel oil along the Sacramento River in Dunsmuir, CA at the direction of EPA Region 9, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, and in conjunction with the City of Dunsmuir and the Indian Cultural Organization.

Project Highlights

  • Construction of a 500-gpm temporary water treatment system
  • Installation of 1,300 LF in-river isolation barrier
  • Excavation and disposal of over 150,000 tons of hazardous and non-hazardous  soils and debris
  • Backfill of over 180,000 tons of clean fill
  • Installation of 1,100 bentonite aggregate oil control barrier
  • Restoration of 1,200 LF of shoreline and floodplains, including 1,200 of fiber-encapsulated lift , 50,000 live stakes and cuttings, and 2,300 native container plants

Value Delivered

Envirocon was an active participant in the EPA mandated cleanup conducted in the FEMA Incident Command System format led by EPA Region 9. This included daily coordination with and weekly updates to the Unified Command consisting of the Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC), State On-Scene Coordinator (SOSC), and the Responsible Party Incident Commander (RPIC).
